Marlborough Primary School

Music Lessons

Music is taught in every year group from Nursery to Year 6 by our Music Specialist. Children are taught the related skills of playing, listening, composing and appraising music. Music is also taught within our Dimensions Curriculum. KS1 and KS2 enjoy weekly singing assemblies where they sing both modern and traditional songs and are exposed to music that reflects the cultures within the school and the wider community we live in.

With a strong partnership with Harrow Music Services, children have opportunities to learn a variety of instruments throughout their time at Marlborough with the option to complete grade exams. Children can learn the following instruments:

  • Guitar
  • Keyboard

The school has introduced various music opportunities for children to learn an instrument as part of the curriculum. These include clarinet, trumpet, xylophone and recorder. There will also be an opportunity for UKS2 to learn Eastern European music. Children are given further opportunities to perform their music in class assemblies, termly performances and the KS1 and Year 6 productions. Marlborough Primary also has a dedicated KS2 choir who perform at school concerts and during assemblies.
